Borovets (known to the middle of the 20th century as Chamkoria) is the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria - dates back to 1896, when general Tantilov built the first resort villa, later Prince Ferdinand built a summer residence. Today Borovets is the biggest first-class mountain resort in Bulgaria situated at 1350 m altitude on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountains; 69 km from Sofia, 83 km from Blagoevgrad and 125 km from Plovdiv. The nearest town is Samokov, 10 km. distance. The resort has twice hosted the World Cup competitions in Alpine skiing (1981 and 1984). The climate is temperate - winter is mild and snowy. The average temperature in January - the coldest month is about 4,8 ° C. The ski season usually lasts from mid December to April. The resort offers excellent conditions for winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, and cross-country skiing. Moreover, the high parts of Rila Mountains, ski center Markudjik, in high season snow reaches 2 m in thickness - exceptional opportunities for extreme skiing.

Borovets is easily accessible resort offering great opportunities for recreation throughout the year. The magic effect of the mountain, picturesque nature and healthy climate make it a desirable place for recreation, sports, business meetings and seminars. Here you can find developed modern ski resort of high class with its luxurious hotels, restaurants, clubs, shops and of course excellent network of ski tracks and ski lifts. Borovets is an Alpine resort, offering excellent opportunities for the whole range of winter sports - biathlon, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping and snowboarding. The biathlon track is one of the best in the world. The well developed network of ski lifts serve up to 15,400 tourists per hour and provides access to all tracks. The slopes of Borovets have permanent snow cover from December to April with a thickness of more than 1.5 m. The air in the resort is crystal clear. All ski tracks are marked by signs in different languages and are maintained in perfect condition. They are of varying difficulty, suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers. Since the beginning of season 2002/2003 in the resort have been created conditions for night skiing. Every day from 17h till 22h day the second and third tracks of the four-seat ski lift - Martinovi baraki are lit up. The snow cover is secured additionally by installed snow cannons.
