Borovets (known until the middle of the 20th century as Chamkoria) is the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria – it dates from 1896, when General Tantilov built the first holiday villa, subsequently Prince Ferdinand built a summer residence. Today Borovets is the largest first-class resort.

It is situated at an altitude of 1350 m on the northern slopes of the Rila Mountains, 69 km from Sofia, 83 km from Blagoevgrad and 125 km from Plovdiv. The nearest town is Samokov, 10 km away. distance. The resort twice hosts competitions for the Alpine Ski World Cup (1981 and 1984). The climate in the resort is temperate, winter is mild and there is a lot of snow. The average January temperature, the coldest month, is around 4.8 ° C. The ski season usually lasts from mid-December to April. The resort offers excellent conditions for winter sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing. Borovets is an easily accessible resort that offers great opportunities for holidays throughout the year. Borovets is an alpine type resort offering great opportunities for all winter sports – biathlon, alpine skiing, cross country, ski jumping and snowboarding. The biathlon track is one of the best in the world. The elevator network serves up to 15,400 tourists an hour and provides access to all runways. The slopes of Borovets have a constant snow cover from December to April with a thickness of more than 1.5 m.

The resort’s air is crystal clear. All ski runs are marked with signs in different languages ​​and are maintained in perfect condition. They are of varying difficulty, suitable for beginners as well as advanced skiers. Since the beginning of the season 2002/2003 the resort has created conditions for night riding. From 5pm to 10pm, the second and third runways of the four-seater Martin Barracks are lit daily. During these hours, the trails 2 and 3 on the same runways also operate. Snow cover is additionally secured by installed snow guns.
